Prospects for the 1 + �

Monte Carlo calculations are presented for pho-toproduction of the h 0 1 meson at TJNAF energies. The kinematics of these events are then examined to estimate some of the requirements for charged particle detection with a new detector using E 6GeV beams. 1 The 1 +? Nonet and Experimental Status In the constituent quark model for mesonss1], the 1 +? nonet consists of a bound quark-antiquark pair in a spin singlet state, with one unit of angular momentum. This leads to a J PC = 1 +?. These states can be reached through a photo-excitation of the pseudoscalar nonet. This nonet contains the the isovector b 1 , the isoscalars h 1 and h 0 1 , and the strange mesons, K 1A in both neutral and charged states. Since strange mesons are not eigenstates of charge conjugation, the strange members of this nonet mix with those in the 1 ++ nonet to give the physically observed states, K 1 (1270) and K 1 (1400). The b 1 (1235) has been studied extensively,,2] while less is known about the h 1 (1170))2]. Inconclusive evidence for the h 0 1 (h 1 (1380)) has been published by one experimentt3] using the LASS detector. This involved a partial-wave analysis of (K K) near threshold in the reaction K ? p ! KK. Recently, the Crystal Barrel collaboration has analyzed the reaction pp ! K 0 L K 0 S 0 0 and see evidence in their partial-wave analysis for a 1 +? state in K K4]. The reported mass and width from these two analyses are presented in Table 1.1.It is unclear how much of the diierence could be due to diierent treatments of threshold eeects. 1 mass and width as derived from the partial wave analyses of the LASS and Crystal Barrel collaborations
